JavaScript — Convert Boolean to Number

We’re working on the new Future Studio website. We’re migrating data from the previously used document database RethinkDB to MySQL. RethinkDB allowed us to store boolean values. MySQL stores boolean values as TINYINT(1).

During the data migration from RethinkDB to MySQL we transferred all boolean values to numbers. And we actively translated all true or false values to 1 or 0. This tutorial shows you how to seamlessly convert a boolean value to a number in JavaScript.

Convert a Boolean Value to a Number in JavaScript, TypeScript, or Node.js

Translating a boolean value to a number in JavaScript is straightforward. The global Number function accepts booleans and returns the respective number value:
- true becomes 1 - false becomes 0

Here’s a code snippet translating boolean values to numbers:

const one = Number(true) // 1
const zero = Number(false) // 0

That’s it!
