JavaScript — Convert Number to Boolean

We’re working on the new Future Studio website. We migrated data to MySQL and used TINYINT(1) columns to store boolean values. An ORM reads data from MySQL and we added convenience methods on models to determine whether a given value is true or false. We’re translating the numbers to a boolean value in our code.

This tutorial shows you how to transfer a number to a boolean value in JavaScript.

Convert a Number to Boolean in JavaScript, TypeScript, or Node.js

Translating a number to a boolean value in JavaScript is straightforward. Use the global Boolean function and pass it the number as a parameter. The return value is the respective boolean value:
- 0 becomes false - every other number becomes true

Here’s a code snippet showing how to convert number values to booleans:

const truthy = Boolean(1) // true
const truthyToo = Boolean(2) // true
const truthyToo = Boolean(-1) // true

const falsy = Boolean(0) // false

That’s it!
